A third of British shoppers believe that customer service standards are worse than ever, according to a new survey.

The poll, conducted by Best Buy UK, found that UK businesses are missing out on £850bn worth of trade thanks to bad service.
And while opinions varied on the standard of customer service, few said that there had been any signs of improvement.
40% of respondents claimed that service from shop assistants, waiters or bank tellers is no better than it was years ago.
Over a third believes that the standard of service in the UK has been declining steadily for the last 30 years.
But shockingly the majority of those surveyed stated that there has been a “noticeable drop” in service standards in the last decade.
However, more than three quarters (71%) of shoppers said that they would pay more for good customer service and helpful and knowledgeable staff, while 85% would go out of their way to use companies that offer better service.
